Anyone who has struggled with alcohol or chemical dependency or substance use, or a family member who has struggled with these issues knows that addiction is a family disease. This is a disease that has a wide impact, not just on that individual, but everyone who lives [with] that individual or is around that individual. The repercussions, the ripple effect can often be devastating for the entire family. We know that this can be a stressor in terms of divorce, this can be a stressor in terms of parents’ ability to raise their kids, can obviously have an impact on relationships between those family members and others outside of the family. So this is an issue that when it is not attended to, when it is not treated and addressed, can have a devastating effect. – Dr. Terry Cline
